Great training either at the National Fire Academy including the NC NFA weekend or courses from the NFA taught in NC.
The National Fire Academy (NFA) is a federally funded institution from the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) under the the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). It provides education, training, and professional development to firefighters, EMS providers, and other first responders in fire prevention, fire investigation, HAZMAT, EMS, leadership, and incident management.
NFA hosts courses year round at their Emmitsburg Maryland campus with first responders from around the globe attending. Firefighters, EMS providers, and many others are eligible to attend courses with approval of their agency head. Members of state, local, or non-profit entities are able to attend free of charge with free on-site lodging included and travel reimbursement available once a fiscal year (requires special meal ticket not included). Courses are available to search through their course catalog with regular enrollment periods or immediate vacancies and wait lists.
OSFM assists with NFA course requests by potential host agencies with more information hosted on their website.
NCAFC assists with coordinating the NC NFA weekend where first responders across NC take over the NFA campus for a special weekend of learning and fellowship. Specific courses are hosted for the weekend that relate to NC needs or emerging risks and also include special NC events throughout. Signups are done through the NCAFC and are not fee waived or eligible for travel reimbursement but the fee includes meal tickets and lodging.
Many courses are evaluated and count towards free college degree credits through the American Council on Education (ACE). Additionally courses count towards CEUS through the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and is a preferred provider with the International Code Council (ICC).

This is not an all inclusive explanation or resource page of the National Fire Academy and everything they have to offer. There is much more to learn about and experience by actually going there and taking a class. More information can also be found by going through their website and looking at other special offerings like the Executive Fire Officer program or the Managing officer program. Other special development classes or summits pop up throughout the year or unique weekend offerings like Women in Fire. So please check out more on your own and try some classes for yourself.
